Many people spend hours a day with a hand on the mouse and never think twice about it as long as the cursor moves. Gamers on the other hand need just a little bit more, Okay, a LOT more. Packaging

The aLLreLi M515BU mouse comes in a very colorful box, with a picture of the product taking up most of the front of the box.

The back of the box gives a quick rundown of the highlights and features of the mouse, as well as compatibility with Windows XP through 10.

The side of the box lists the specifications and contact information for support and drivers.

Inside we find the mouse wrapped in a plastic bag to prevent scratches, and the manual and driver disk on a mini cd-rom. If you don’t have an optical drive in your computer, the software suite can be download directly from aLLreLi via their website.

A Closer Look

The aLLreLi M515BU Mouse is equipped with 6 buttons, the usual left right and middle click, as well as two thumb buttons and one just behind the wheel. Two ergonomic flared areas give your thumb and fingers somewhere comfortable to ride for long gaming sessions. The 1.6 Meter long cable is covered with braided nylon with a ferrite ring to reduce interference and the gold plated USB plug provides a good clean connection for a worry free experience.

Both sides of the mouse have a subtle but effective anti-slip coating. Here you can also see that the aLLreLi logo on the rear, a light bar on the underside of the back, and the wheel all light up with a breathing effect. By default you get 5 colors that are tied to DPI selection, but they can be changed in the software.

Hiding on the bottom is a physical switch to turn off the LED Lighting. You can also find the 4 mouse skates and the optical sensor window.

Loading up the software requires the mouse to be connected or the software will not launch. I find the picture in the software of the mouse strange as I can’t find a “game titan” from aLLreLi, however it is the same shape and configuration of our M515 mouse. Here you can see the color selections and effects available.

Each of the 5 DPI presets can be adjusted to any setting of your choosing from 250 to 4000 DPI. You can also adjust the acceleration curve.

In the next tab, we can adjust any of the buttons to nearly any function you can think of, including the left, right and middle mouse buttons. The software will warn you that at least one button must remain a ‘click’.

Any of the aLLreLi M515BU Mouse’s buttons and even the scroll wheel movement can be assigned to a macro. You can choose to keep the real world time between key presses as well as looping the command more than one time as needed Here I configured the ‘DPI select’ button to type ‘ProClockers.com’ and press enter.

Next is a somewhat useful feature, allowing you to adjust Windows’s system wide mouse settings if you just can’t get it where you want it. This does affect windows at the system wide level, so be aware.

The Last tab allows you to adjust the polling speed from the default of 500Hz to 125Hz, 250Hz, or 1000Hz. Faster polling speeds reduce the time it takes to register a new position, but can impact system performance on lower end machines such as Ultrabook’s from interrupting the system every millisecond to update cursor position.

Testing and User Experience

Mouse Polling Rate Test
Mouse Rate Checker 1.1b

“This little program measures and displays the sample rate of a mouse, i.e. how often the mouse sends information to your computer. It just measures the time between two "WM_MOUSEMOVE" messages and calculates the frequency.

There are programs to increase the sample rate of PS/2 mice to make the cursor movement smoother.

To check your mouse's sample rate, just move the mouse quickly over the Mouse Rate Checker window until the average rate stays constant.

It's possible that the rate is a bit inaccurate, especially at high rates (>=100 Hz). Try to uncheck the "show current rate" checkbox, which should lower CPU usage and close all other applications. If it's still inaccurate, blame Windows, not my program.

Mouse Rate Checker 1.1b is Freeware.”

In testing, the mouse is being tested and calculated out to be polling at the selected speed (after hitting ‘apply’). Here you can see it testing at ~1000Hz.

We’ve saved the most powerful feature of this software for last. Profiles. Many devices these days have user selectable profiles, but aLLreLi takes this one great step forward and allows you to automate your profiles to automatically apply when a selected app is launched.

Just to add a little gravy, when assigning an executable to monitor, you can select a shortcut from your desktop and the aLLreLi software will find the correct executable path saving a ton of time dialing down through numerous folders. All changes to the mouse are downloaded to the aLLreLi M515BU’s internal memory so that the mouse, as you like it, can be used with any PC.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

aLLreLi has delivered a another great product here with the M515 Mouse. The simple, ergonomic design keeps costs down, but the well-polished software suite provided gives this mouse quite the edge over its competition. aLLreLi has come up with a thoughtful design that should suit most gamers needs without breaking the bank. At the time of writing, this mouse carries an MSRP of $59.99 which is reasonable given the flexibility and power the software provides, but the current sale price of $18.99 found at Amazon makes this a bargain that you may want to jump on if you are looking for a new mouse.

The comfort of any mouse is really up to the preferences of the end user, and I personally find the aLLreLi M515BU a bit too narrow for my large hands and typical palm grip on a mouse, but using a claw grip is a different story. I found the automatic profile switching to be a real benefit outside of gaming. For example, tying one profile to my voice chat software gave me the ability to change the behavior of one side button to another unused key for Push-to-Talk so that I wasn’t going back a page in my browser every time I tried to transmit. If you surf the web between rounds while still talking to teammates, you probably know the pain this can cause.  Great Job aLLreLi!
